A member of the zeolite family, prehnite is a volcanic silicate mineral that forms in cavities in basaltic rocks.
For the most part, Scotland's prehnite is pale green, while Australia's ranges from a darker green to pale yellows and rich golds; and South Africa's ranges from lime greens to oranges and even whites.
Some rare specimens of prehnite can resemble jade. |

prehnite fish Currently, Australia's Northern Territory is estimated to have about 90% of the known prehnite deposits in the world. However, they are on property recently declared a prospecting area which means commercial mining is not allowed, only fossicking.
